The Plaza spends a crap load of money on a facelift

New York, NY (AHN)-- New York's landmark Plaza Hotel is back in business after three years and $400 million worth of refinements.
Now a mix of hotel rooms starting at $1,000 a night and multi-million-dollar residences, the "Castle on the Park" welcomed its first guests Saturday, still living up to its luxurious reputation.
The restored features include gleaming mosaic floors, sparkling chandeliers and gold-trimmed ceilings. White-gloved butlers on every floor take guests to rooms where even the toilet-paper holders and faucets are gilded in 24-karat gold.
Elad Properties, the Plaza's new owners, had initially planned to convert all guest rooms into condominiums. They, however, ran up against preservationists and the hotel workers' union. Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped negotiate the hotel room-condo mix.
All but one of the 181 private apartments have been sold, including one with a price tag of $50 million.
On the other hand, the 282 guestrooms, which start at $715 a night, feature 102 pricier suites.
The renovated guest rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, electronic key cards, iPod docks and digital touch screens that let guests change lighting and temperature or call for assistance. Guests can request an "Eloise" bubble bath, with milk and cookies.
At the same time, a new Champagne Bar in the lobby offers cocktails, champagne by the glass ($25-$60) or by the bottle, up to $3,350 for a magnum.
The Plaza's management disclosed that the hotel is already fully booked for weeks.

I think I would go catatonic if someone handed me 400 million or a million period.
